Deborah

Deborah has had a passion for music from an early age, perhaps partly inspired by listening to stories her father would tell about being in a rock and roll band in the 60’s. Surrounded by music in her childhood, she formed a deep connection with both classical and popular music, training first as a classical flautist but always finding her own voice through singing. She moved to London to study music, broadening her horizons to include Far Eastern music and Jazz, and became part of the diverse musical community there.

Early experiences centred around a friendship formed with the incomparable bass player Michael Mondesir through whom she met many influential musicians/artists such as Jason Rebello, Billy Cobham and Django Bates, and through winning a competition with the prize of recording with Ray Hayden at the well renowned Opaz Studios, which led to her first releases through Dome Records.

Involved in various projects both as a backing and lead vocalist, Deborah then had the fortune to meet and record with Lewis Taylor whose vocal arrangements especially inspired Deborah in her creative approach. She was asked to join both Bembe Segue as a backing vocalist, and Eska as her backing vocal director, which further honed her skills and inspired her to begin writing for herself. Simultaneously Deborah was being challenged to sing music of unrivalled beauty and complexity as the vocalist for Robert Mitchell’s Panacea, with whom she has sung now for 8 years.

Through her work with Bembe Segue, Deborah was introduced to Dego (of 4hero) and Kaidi Tatham who decided on Deborah as the voice of their new project Silhouette Brown. This was a breakthrough album for Deborah, becoming regarded as a cult classic and placing her firmly amongst the leading vocalists on the scene.

Deborah has since been much in demand as a guest vocalist for many producers including Rednose Distrikt, Unforscene, Emanative, iisijii, Jneiro Jarel, Electric Conversation, Soundspecies, Bugz in the Attic and 4hero. These many collaborations led her to create her debut album ‘The Light’, released in collaboration with Futuristica Music and featuring many of these producers as musical contributors alongside the likes of Simbad, Don-Ray, Atjazz, Marc Rapson, Rise and many others.

Deborah is soon to feature on the forthcoming album from the Live Tropical Fish with whom she has been recording and performing live, as well as the album ‘Reborn’ by Sun Circle.
